How to Design a Cover Letter

In today’s job market cover letters are equally important as resumes. Cover letter is a document attached along with your resume which has a brief synopsis of your work experience.

1)    It is used to represent your professional connections
2)    Every line should be short and should not exceed more than a line.
3)    A ‘cold’ cover letter is given more preference in an organization.
4)    Try to check out cover letters on the internet to get brief idea of writing.
5)    Your achievements, testimonials, etc. adds weight to it.
6)    Try to answer ‘why you should be hired’ in cover letter.
7)    Try to have unique cover letter for every interview.
8)    Keep your cover letter as short as three paragraphs.
9)    Design and font of cover letter should merge with your resume.
10)    Being young you can represent your energy, passion and writing skills in your cover letter.
11)    If you are planning to add your salary expectation, try to add your previous salaries.
12)    Ask your peers or seniors to review the tone and grammar of it.
13)    When applying online keep your subject line clear and as per the job requirements.
14)    Use good keywords in your cover letter to make it searchable on the job portals.
15)    Keep the tone business centric, enthusiastic and professional at the same time.
16)    Try not to start too many sentences with “I”.
17)    Tailoring each cover letter will make you proficient in writing.
18)    Using bullet points is a good way of describing yourself in brief.
19)    Use standard business style cover letter having 12 point size with Calibri or Ariel font.
20)    Don’t write same things on a cover letter as your resume.
